Dr. Ben Eksteen

Originally from South Africa, he spent 17 years in general practice in Canada before deciding to join previous colleagues of his in sunny Australia.

Ben enjoys all aspects of general practice, from neonatal to palliative care, including all acute and chronic ailments and prenatal shared care. Women’s health including contraception, pap smears and Mirena IUD insertion are also areas of interest.

Ben has done further training in skin cancer treatment including a Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine and he manages a range of skin care conditions, including skin cancer screening and management.

He promotes a holistic approach to medicine and health in general and appreciates the value of a balanced lifestyle and prevention of disease.

In addition, Ben also has excellent experience in sports medicine, having worked in close relation with several Orthopaedic Surgeons with a subspecialty in sports-related injuries. He also has an interest and a background in peri-operative medicine.

Personally, Ben enjoys spending time with his young family. He lives an active lifestyle, participating in long-distance cycling, mountain biking, running and triathlon – having competed and finished in the Canadian Ironman competition. Ben consults from the Mingara Medical Consulting Rooms 4 days a week at Tumbi Umbi.  He also assists with orthopaedic surgery at North Gosford Private Hospital and visits local aged care facilities to ensure those frailer members of our community are receiving regular medical assistance.
